About Food Finder

Frank Madden the Managing Director, and the Editor of Today’s Grocery Magazine (TGm), FoodFinder and Who’s Who annual reviews has worked in the Fast Moving Consumer Grocery (FMCG) sector since his role as Media Executive in Mc Connells Advertising and Young Rubicon In 1970. Madden became director of The Vesey Group in 1978 where he was responsible for the publication of Checkout, Kellys Guide to Ireland, World of Interiors and the launch of the Checkout Annual Conference and Yearbook.

In 1984, Madden launched Today’s Grocery Magazine; a monthly publication serving the €14.6bn FMCG market in Ireland. Under Maddens’ leadership, TGm’s principles of informed debate, accurate and timely reporting combined with regular analysis, broader market trends affecting manufacturers, agents/distributors and retailers, helped position TGm as the trade’s most informed publication.

TGm, under the leadership of Frank Madden, was highly regarded as a source of information and analysis of the Irish grocery trade and was well known for its strong investigative journalism. Many of the lead stories published in TGm were picked up by the national media e.g. the publication of Dunnes Stores Accounts; The Demise of Sprite; the uncovering of grant aid to Heinz Weight Watchers in Dundalk; Dunnes Stores Not For Sale; the takeover of Allied Domecq; Kraft’s takeover of Cadbury; the demise of Fruitfield Foods and the buyout of RHM, Chivers and SHS by Premier Foods.

In 1986 TGm was exclusively called upon to represent Ireland for the first ever SIAL Global Food Marketplace Awards. Competing against 18 countries, Ireland won 6 Oscars in the categories of food, drink and non-food.

Madden received international acclaim for the magazine and continued this through its alliance with 18 international countries and the policy makers who shape the food business forum such as C.I.E.S, IECR, Koln-Masse and SIAL, the worlds largest food innovation exhibition.

At the request of Bord Bia and SIAL, Madden addressed the European Union of Journalists in Paris on ‘The Changing Face of the Irish Retail Trade’ and was subsequently appointed a member of AGPA – The Association Générale de la Presse de l’Alimentation. He was also appointed a member of CIES - Comité International d’Entreprises à Succursales (CIES – International Committee of Food Retail Chains).

In 1997, Madden launched TGm’s FoodFinder - a 200 page annual review profiling food, drink and non-food. TGm’s success continued with the launch of the Who’s Who in April 2009 - a 200 page review of the FMCG market - demographically and geographically - including brand profiles and analysis of the top 100 companies operating in the €14.6bn Irish FMCG market.
